Sunday Stroll

Vol. 3 No. 14

A simple stroll in your neighborhood park could yield some great subjects.  This is true only if you remember to bring your camera.

This short video is from my Sunday morning walk through Juniper Park in Middle Village, Queens.  With the weather staying so hot and humid, an early morning stroll was the only option.  This 55-acre public jewel was opened in 1930 and features sport fields, playgrounds and plenty of tree-lined paths.

End of Summer

Vol. 2 No. 34

Where has the summer gone?  Here's a photograph I made at Socrates Sculpture Garden in Long Island City, Queens.  Captured handheld using a Nikkor 18-200mm VRII lens on a Nikon D300, my setting were ISO200 120mm f/6.7 1/1000th second.

Horicon Lake HDR

Vol. 2 No. 24

Since I was a few minutes late catching the sunset I had pictured in my head (always masterpieces - at least in my head), I took the opportunity to bracket 7 exposures and create the HDR image below.

High dynamic range (HDR) imaging is a set of techniques that allow a greater dynamic range of luminance between the darkest (shadow) and lightest (highlight) areas of an image than possible in standard photography.  The image above was captured on a Nikon D300 at 52mm f/13 ISO 200 with an exposure ranging from 1/20th of a second to 3 seconds.  This equated to seven images each 1 stop in difference.

By the Boardwalk

Vol. 1 No. 40

ConeyIsAug2009-001
The summer is in its waning days. Why not venture out to record a few scenes typically associated with the warmer season? The days are growing shorter and the recent hurricanes traveling north-east off the coast, while keeping beach goers out of the water, definitely makes the cloud formations a heck more interesting.

Here's a great self-assignment, try and make a couple of photographs that represent summer. It is strictly your interpretation. What image evokes the feeling of summer, to you? I made these three images within a span of one hour. Could have done it quicker but, had to stop for a couple of corn dogs and some cheese fries.

If you would like to share you photographs of summer with us, feel free to add them to the LensCapture Flickr Group. Make sure to add the tag "summer." I'll share the best here on the blog.

Manhattanhenge

Vol. 1 No. 32

Thought I would share a few of images captured during Manhattanhenge. While the moment was fleeting, the crowd watching was hilarious. The mass of photographers, some with their point and shoots, others with their ten yards of glass and tripods, played chicken with the cabs and motoring public at 34th Street and Fifth Avenue.
