Vol. 2 No. 20

With over 900 walks and more than 32,000 photographers participating in last year's Worldwide Photo Walk, this year promises to be even better.  I have been selected to lead the photo walk that starts at Brooklyn Bridge Park's new Pier 1.

Our photo walk starts out with a brief stroll along the newly opened waterfront space in Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Pier 1. Pier 1 adds 6 new acres of park including 1,300 feet of promenade along the East River, and 2.5 acres of lawn with sweeping views of the New York harbor, the Manhattan skyline, and the Brooklyn Bridge. A dramatic granite prospect made from the stone salvaged from the Roosevelt Island Bridge cascades from the two lawns to the 30’ wide waterfront promenade and serves as a tiered viewing deck.

Then we’ll board the NY Water Taxi ($6 one-way/$10 round-trip) for a quick, but picturesque ferry across the East River to the South Street Seaport. NY Water Taxi boats are smooth cruising 2 deck vessels with an air-conditioned enclosed cabin deck and an open air upper deck. Passengers board and disembark on Cabin deck level. This deck is ADA Accessible.

Once we arrive on the Manhattan side, you’ll be able to photograph the historic seaport area where you’ll find tall-masted ships, great architecture, street performers, and plenty of other events to capture. Our walk ends on the upper level of Pier 17′s outside veranda. Offering spectacular views of the revitalize Brooklyn waterfront and the Brooklyn Bridge. Then we step inside to the Food Court, with over 15 eateries to choose from, for a quick bite and photo walk discussion.

This walk is open to everyone with a camera (point and shoot, film or digital SLR, etc.) at any skill level.  These individual walks are limited to 50 participants.   If that doesn’t sound like a lot, you haven’t seen 50 photographers coming down the sidewalk at the same time, and later all converging at once on a restaurant or pub. It’s more like a scary bike gang (except without the bikes, or gang, or scariness).

So, don't delay in signing-up for this walk, or any of the Worldwide Photo Walks.  This event is always a great social and photographic experience.
